Wrasses!

    I have heard that as well. But FWIW, I have had my firefish probably 7 months now open top. Has never even gone near the surface.

    I used to have one in my uncovered 55 and never had any problems but i have also heard that as well

    I do have a hood. I just read about the firefish and their love of jumping. Luckily, it's all covered!

    Wrasses are known for jumping as well.

    Some sort of anti carpet surfing device is a good idea for aquariums, even if you don't have fish that are known jumpers.

    a cover, or a barrier to keep the fish IN the water;)

    I know you are pretty set on the fire fish, but I am a huge lover of the wrasses.

    Firefish can be kind of shy and can stay hidden alot of the time.

    But most wrasses are very easy to care for and are out swimming around. Be careful though, some are not reef safe and most will bury themselves in the sand to sleep or if they feel threatened.

    Check out the Hawaiian Flame Wrasse. This is the pentacle of what a reef tank can have in it. If you don't want a wrasse after seeing that, then well.... I can't imagine.

    im a big fan of the flashers. great colors and very cool the way they swim flashing. mcoskers and carpenters are 2 of my favs. but that hawaiin flame is awesome too.
