So I got frags from someone a couple of weeks ago and I noticed after being fragged they never opened up and turned white like how his tank was. He runs VHO + MH I believe and the LED's (d120s) I have on the tank are only at 25% power.

The heads were usually closed and not open/pulsing and now this morning I saw them like this.

Can someone explain this to me? The GSP, shroom, kenya tree, and another soft coral seem to be fine and open up everyday so I don't have a clue. The inverts I have in the tank are cleaner shrimp, tiger pistol shrimp, snails, and hermits. The fish are yellow tang, 2 true percs, and a blue-sided fairy wrasse.

The best way I can explain Zenia is, If it hasn't dissolved, it still has a chance. The tricky thing about this coral is how delicate it is to chemistry changes. IMO, it is also delicate to flow change, but that's from my one time experience when I killed my pom pom by adding another power head. I've seen people run Z corals forever, and I've seen others that had it for a long time, to one day just up and die. I love them personally. Yours may still recover.

I cant see the picture from my work computer but I am assuming its a not healthy looking xenia from your description and questions.
Check you chemistry. Mine stopped pulsing and turned out my CA was low. They also dont like low alk or pH.
During a topoff one time I poured the cold freshwater right onto them not paying attention, for about a week they looked dead as could be! All came back pulsing away after a little more than a week. I have also accidently sucked them up with the vacuum during WC and placed them back to have them look terrible for awhile but they always recovered. As the previous poster said, if its not dissolved, its not dead!

After seeing the picture the coral is 100% alive. Mine closes its hands like that every night after the lights go off or anytime I do anything to tick it off. It will eventually open back up :)

Give it time to open up completely, make sure your salinity is stable as much as possible they hate salt swings and temp swings IME.

If it looks like they are melting like an icicle then they may need some iodine.

For many soft corals, will I need Iodine supplementing? Also what would I need to keep LPS happy? I do 20% water changes every 3 weeks or at least attempt to. I use IO:reef crystals if that helps

I would increase the water change frequency to 5% to 10% a week to keep micro nutrients at a steadier level.
