    +1 on letting them die.

    They proliferate quickly when they do well. Thus the reason that they are known as a weed by quite a few keepers. They rank higher on the list than Kenya trees (people are always having to "trim their limbs"), or my leathers (so numerous in my tank, >12). On top of that, I'd be willing to bet these xenia didn't set you back much. I say, "Let 'em die, keep your more valuable corals alive."

    I read somewhere (don't remember sadly) that running your skimmer for part of the day rather than 24/7 gives them some time to feed. But of course you are messing with the chance of hurting your others corals.

    Maybe thats what happened to my Xenia. After I set up my tank and added Xenia, it was one of the first softies that I purchased it grew like crazy. I fragged it about 20 times at least with my lfs giving credit for it. Then one day about a year later it started looking not so good and went downhil from there. Now I cant keep the stuff alive yet everything else is thriving

    I had zenia growing out of control when I had my Nitrates in the 20-25 range, since adding Purigen my Trates stay around .5ppm and my Zenia has stopped growing.

    When I first started out not knowing better, my Zenia looked like it was melting away-its a long story so I'll skip it:clapping:
    But it kept getting worse and worse slow dissolving

    So I took a brand new sterile razor blade and chopped both stalks about 3/4 inch from the base.

    It grew back like they always do and it was the healthiest weed in the tank-I had to frag it about every 4 weeks.

    Im glad it has stopped growing it was going on the eviction list

    Started here about 4-6 weeks after getting wacked;

    That rock is the size of a large grapefruit to give prospective.

    Low tirate and phosphate=slow growth
    highr NO3 and PO4= faster growth

    I've always used the term "dirty" water as water with higher nutrients. Yes most soft corals thrive in a tank that have nutrient levels that are on the higher side. Xenia also likes Iodine (but test your water before adding)

    xenia are fun to look at but in my experience very hard to kill. I have tried to cut the entire stalk even getting so close with a razor blade and about a month later it came back I would say you have nothing to worry about it. Plus your other stalk looks fine so i doubt it would be any water parameters. I have noticed though sometimes they just curl up and the next day or even week they are back out doing their thing.

    When they melt away, do NOT throw the base away, they are not dead, in 2-6 weeks, they will start to come back, Like the earlier post said they are hard to kill. This seems to be some sort of self preservation action it takes, I have read many post on this when I thought mine had died. be patient....
