Hello, I bought a xenia just before xmas and the store told me to put it in high light and low flow so that what I did and it look ok for the next day. I left out of town for 5 days came back and it looks not good.

It looks sad but does not seem top be melted, I was reading online and some site said to put it in low flow and high light and other site said to put it in medium to low for placement and medium flow.

Should I move it down a little or let it be,
Its been in my tank for over a week now so im thinking its not happy where it is.
Also i have been told that i need to dose for iodine for the xenia to be pulsating is that true?
    What are your thoughts?

Mine do fine in the middle of the tank with low flow. I don't know if they need high light. What type of lights do you have?

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Xenia does not need high light. Mine grows fine lower in the tank in shaded areas. It is one of those soft corals that do fine with older lighting system of pc and fluorescent. Mod flow if fine.

With that said although once established it is one of the easiest corals it can crash and melt quickly. Also IMO it does better at pH levels about 8.0 -8.4.

Dosing iodine will not make a regular xenia "Pulse", that is related, but separate species. Xenia does not need strong light. It does well in varying flow conditions.

You say you were away for 5 days what was feeding your tank? Do you have an ATO? Evap = higher salinity and higher nitrates = unhappy critters. Params???;)

garf xenia farming XENIA POM POM REEF AQUARIUM

xenia is a funny coral. in some tanks it thrives and others cant seem to get it to grow. i tried xenia many times a few years back in the reef tank i had at that time. and no way could i get it to grow. this new tank i set up its thriving in. and i cant tell you why.
this tank has a skimmer the other didnt, well not till the end. this tank i do water changes every 7-10 days the other i stopped doing water changes did one every 6 months if that, and was dosing. this tank i use ro/di water the other tank i just used filtered water. this tank has metal halide the other t5's. not sure if any of that plays a role in the xenias survival. i have read that wild xenia takes longer to acclimate than a piece from another's tank.
which makes sense. but at this time i have both in my tank.
