how much flow do you have going at your xenia i was moving mine around my tank and the polyps didn't seem to like strong flow, caused mine to close up so i put them on the sand bed and they are happy as can be

ive moved it all over the tank looking for the "sweet spot" it hasnt made a difference

its probably a water issue im still yet to find a consistent water change stratagie ive tryed water from tap, rainwater, and water from 2 different beaches and the best results ive had were from tape water, the ocean water around me has high salinity which is easily corrected but tap water is less hastle;D

    Iodine?

    HI,
I read somewhere those critters seem to need a little iodine from time to time to prevent that die off.

Try freezing some bottles of water and float them in the tank to cool it when the temps start to rise :)

i use red sea calcium+3 which has an iodine suplement in it
ive done the bottle method before and i know it does work if i did it i would have to take it out with in 20 mins of putting it in because my temp changes happen that quick for eg: got up this morning 28.2 degrees (8 am) 2 hours later 26.5 degrees 12 am its 27.7 its like that all day up and down

i recorded my temps 1 night when i was doin maint (date:22/6/07_6 pm)

removed hood and glasstops temp 26.5
    20 mins later 26 deg
    20 mins later 26.2 deg
    20 mins later 27 deg
it goto 28 deg within an hour from that
the heater dint turn on once
and i have 2 thermometers in the tank that both gave same readings

i only noted this stuff down so i could keep an eye on the temp i thought id fixed the problem with in the first half hour of taking the tops off but then out of no where the water heated up again i think i have a ghost

    buying new heater on payday
think i found the problem the heater has been switching on but the "on light" doesnt come on
i turned my heater off todayand the temp dropped to 25 deg.. hasnt been that low in ages, anyways i turned it back on "plugged it back into the wall" and with in a short time the temp had gone upto 28 again so to be sure i touched the header and sure enough it was warmed up and doin its thing "in stealth mode" with no light on.

    thnx fer every 1's help
