Well xenia do take nutrients from the water...but lugols solution would make the xenia happy...but thats not considered food :)

i realize that:p , i just know that xenia tends to thrive better with iodine dosing. my point was that if someone took the approach of xenia being fully dependant upon a light source as opposed to feeding the tank specifically for the xenia, that in the addition of lugol's or the like, could possibly make the coral happier (not that they feel emotion but in some sense);) .

i think that xenia do not "feed" in the traditional way that many corals do...in that they dont capture and "Eat" food, if coral food is introduced into an aquarium the xenia will tend to perk up because of the nutrients that were introduced :)

I agree with JAY! Nutrients absorbed from water. They do require light however for the symbiotic algae(zooanthelae) as well as strong water movement and Iodine supplement.

Yes, my thinking was that the absorbing of nutrients did not count as "feeding" :)

Iodine is difficult to test for and something that you don't want to over dose. Make sure you get an accurate test before adding any iodine oe any supplementation for that matter, eh?;D
