Temp is steady at 79, PH is 8.0 (before lights on), 0 Nitrite, 5 Nitrate, 0 Ammonia.

Went to the LPS and they test for Phosphate and Calcium, both checked out (sorry do not remember exact #s except he said they were just fine)

I just started dosing with essential from Kent...

It is odd because, I have a finger leather in there and it is doing just fine!

If the water parameters are okay, is it an area of high waterflow? Ours is on the side of a rock with probably low to moderate waterflow (pic below). If it gets too much waterflow (like directly in the path of a powerhead), it will ball up and not come out.

8.0 Ph is low imo, I had trouble with my Xenia and it was due to High Nitrates. I placed 35 more pounds of live rock and started using NSW that is collected 15 miles off shore and they say 300 Meters below the surface and then filtered.

2 water changes later and the mini cycle is gone from the new liverock and my Xenia is growing out of control.

I think it is your PH IMO though also how much live rock do you have in your tank?

I have about 35 pounds of live rock... and my Xenia is about midway up the tank under my filter return... Really not a who heck of alot of flow... I could try and move it to where my finger coral is...

    How big is your tank?

Mine is 65 gallons and I have 105 pounds of liverock. My PH sits at 8.3, cal is 440 and alk is 11dkh

It's 55 gallon and my Alk is 10dkh and my calcium was OK according to the LPS (he knew I was trying to figure out why xenia wasn't pulsing...)

Is it possible the frag is just getting used to my water conditions?

    doubt it,

That is not enough liverock IMO for your tank.

Adding liverock to your tank will bring up your PH. I bet that is your overall problem.

But, if I add live rock to my tank - will it not spike a small cycle?

I already have fish and inverts in there...
