I have read how different thes things can be...pretty new with corals, I have red mushrooms that are doing good and I know how easy they are to take care of.

I have had xenias that died then got a good light (well I think its a good one) a coralife 48" compact with two 10k and two actinic so its like 260 watts and then the 4 moon lights at night on a 55 gal. tank. Back to the xenias, they open up at night when the moon lights are on and then during the day they close up and almost look like they are diying. They are at the top of my tank, have moved them around in the tank but dosen't matter same resalts. Have a reef master test kit and everything looks good just the Cal. is high for some reason, like 560.?.

Am I doing something wrong or.............??

I don't think it is your lights since I am running the same setup and my xenia is growing like a weed. How is the flow in the tank? mine did better once I added more flow in their direction.

Try moving them down and leaving them there for about a week. Remember too that every time you move something it has to recoup so give it time.

I have them up high and down low with 260 watts PC..
All doing good.. The one up high grows different then the lower ones..

The ones on the bottom seam to " reach " more for the light .
They may just need to get used to your tank and water.. mine close at night, open in the day.. They may be used to a different light cycle.. They should get used to yours..

    Good Luck, Larry

Right now, I don't have a lighting fixture in my nano. I have transferred all coral out of my 10g into the 90. All except the Xenia. Xenia does not like my tank. Dies every time. Right now, it is doing much better without any light at all than in my main DT.

So, some reef tanks just do not do Xenia. I can do Kenya trees pretty well. So, at least I have something that will spread like wildfire.

+1. Xenia is strange. Pom pom's grow like weeds in my tank. But I tried blue once, and it completely melted away in a week.

I can't grow a kenya tree for the life of me, but my xenia and organ pipe coral are growing like weeds.
