onwards and upwards is the best medicine in these situation IMHO
you did exactly the right thing

I know what you mean about the noise factor though
and if your going to get fish, then a water pump driven model will be a better option

I agree. I have seen and read nothing but great things about the skimmers.

I think I will put a 6-line wrasse and maybe a goby of some kind in the tank. The 6-line is for flatworms and pyramid snail removal. The goby would be for entertainment.

I decided to modify my sump and make it rimless. There is no real functional point of this besides making it look nice. I figure the baffles would keep the glass from bowing and causing a problem. I did try to cut the silicone off with the dull side of a razor blade. I'll give you all a hint as to the part I was holding. There is a bloody mess in the bathroom sink and duct tape has been used.

    Oops....

you may want to consider putting a wrasse in there. not only because one fish adds a lot to the beneficial fauna of a tank, but also because most wrasses will eat a lot of bad hitchikers if any were to arise

Where the tank will go (the stand will be a custom 48"x21" table):

I will probably build a wall on the side the computer is on to protect it from salt and what not. The tank will go in the middle of the table and starboard will be used as the surface. I think it will make a nice work area.

Thats why I was thinking a 6-line wrasse. Cheap and pretty.

I am not worried about the weight the stand has to hold since the tank will hold about 12 gallons of water. 12 x ~8.35 = 100.2 . I sat on the stand for about 30 minutes and tried bouncing and wiggling on it. There was very little movement. If I have some extra wood left over I will reinforce the legs a little more.

The bar coming from the back of the tank will hold track lighting. I have picked out this fixture because I can get more movement out of the bulb placement.

I will be painting the stand black some time this week.

I figure it will be at least two months before anything will be in it.

I still need to buy bulkheads, the LED PAR38 bulbs from RapidLED, dry rubble from BRS, and the track lighting to mount the bulbs on.

I figure it will cost another $300 easy.
