I hooked up a JBJ system a few weeks ago and for some reason it quit working. I found I was about 2 1/2 gallons low in the sump before I caught it. From the best I could tell it would send the signal to turn the pump on but the relay inside wouldnt activate to let the pump come on. I started looking around to find a top off that wouldnt cost me another $100.00 and ran across this on youtube and decided to go this route. It is working great so far with no issues. It took me about 10 minutes to build and I have less than $20 in it.

I still have to fill the 5 gal bucket every 4 days but my sump level will only drop about an 1/8" and gets topped back off. Here is a link to the float valve I bought and I am using an aqualifter for the pump to pump the water to the sump

Hey yamahaRider, that youtube ATO is cheap but it looks dangerous. I wouldn't do it that way, you're better off with a gravity fed ATO. I don't think that float switch was design to handle 120v, just by looking at the wiring housing, it's way too thin, if for some reason it gets stuck that wiring might heat-up. I see the float-switch you referenced is rated for 250v AC so you might be OK, but just make sure. If something should go wrong with the switch it's 120v directly into your tank. Like you I also had one of the $120 ATO systems and it failed on my so I switched to my DIY gravity fed ATO and it's been working for the last 2 yrs with no problems. Just something to think about.

Hey by the way, what kind of yamaha you have? I used to ride a gsxr-750, been thinging of getting a yamaha R1

    My water change drain

Well I was sitting around and started thinking about water changes. I decided to do a little modifications on my drain to the sump. I looked in my box of fittings I had and dug up a few pieces and this is what I come up with so far. I can get about 4 gallons out and my return pump is still under water. Maybe it will give some of you an idea.

Here is the first pic without the little stub piece on so I can still close my cabinet door.

Here it is with it attached and a few inches down in the bucket.

I also thought about adding a garden hose fitting so I could leave everything running and do large water changes if I needed to. I could be pumping water in the sump as it was draining out the front door by a hose.

A minor change to the drain

I made a minor change to the drain for my water changes. I added a hose barb fitting with a short piece of hose to put in the bucket. Just trying to make it a little more convenient.

no messing with syphons or pumps with hoses connected

should make the process a whole lot easier
