Most Gobies are pretty good sand sifter, but beware. They often like to fluff the sand all over corals and can sometimes make your tank cloudy if they're too vigorous.
Very fun fish tho, lots of personality.

YES! I bought one and as soon as I let him go in the tank he dashed for the bottom of a rock. Luckily My rocks are all resting on the glass bottom and the sand around them. He dug out a nice den and 4-5 days later I actually saw him come out. I had a bit of GHA and Cyano before but with him constantly (all day long) sifting the sand, I now don't seem to have a problem. A perfect addition in my eyes.

ok, i have a reef tank and i need a sand sifter really bad but i dont want a sand sifting star fish, and i have some rocks that are stacked and dont want those falling! so do you think its a good idea to get a goby i only have a 1 1/2 inch deep sand bed sooo its not that deep?

I have only had mine for about 3 weeks but he only dug under 1 rock (build his home) So if you got one, find out which rock he is burrowing under and maybe reinforce the bottom of the rock with some smaller rocks wedged under there. Just an idea. Only you can really make the decision but the Gold Head sleeper goby is a great sand sifter and fun to watch. Mine does nothing but dive his head into the sand and get a big mouthful and spit it out of his gills and go for round 2.
