I just picked up a yellow leather from my lfs i have had it in my tank for a while now. for the past three days the polyps have been in hiding causing the coral to look all smooth and shiny. does the coral like low or high current and what is the most important thing to add to the water for this coral?

i think that leathers require intermediate flow. i would make sure your calcium stays around the right level

When I first bought my leather it did that to for about 4 days. It ended up shedding it skin, almost like a snake.

Most all leathers will do this "glass over" thing once introduceing it into a new tank and after being bagged.

It will reopen and look good as new, providing that your water parameters are within range. and decent wanter quality is present.

Oh dear. I just got a yellow leather 2 days ago. Shortly after i put him in he opened up and was stunning. Then, closed, then opened again. Now he has closed up tight, and hasn't opened all day. His skin seems to have a slight brown tinge in small areas. I may have touched him on his base. Anyone think he is Okay?

Give it some flow. Possibly replace carbon. Also, make sure parameters are in check.

If you add iodine to the tank, it will help the soft corals open up.

I've found that everyonce in a while my yellow leather will close up, then reopen. Not exactly sure why it does this but after a day or two at the most it opens back up and looks great. I wouldn't worry about it too much, give it some time.

I have the same problems with my yellow leather. I just ramped up the flow and i'm waiting to see if that helps.
