The story goes like this - I was looking for a 6 line wrasse to add to my 75 gal to help with cleaning up a few flat worms and just really cool fish all away around. Went to three different lfs and was told that the yellow & purple wrasse would be my best choice. (no lfs had a 6 line)
Well I broke my #2 rule and took the store owners word for it. I come to find out this little guy is a jumper (don't have a lid), not really reefsafe since it will pick at clams (don't have one right now but was going to) also will eat fan worms (I have 2 and coco worm)

Anyone have this wrasse and what did you observe?

I don't really know about those 2 wrasses, but if you have done post-buy research and you are certain that they won't be compatible with your reef or that they will damage it, I would attempt to take it back, and argue that the employee gave you false information. This is not unheard off, and I would be firm and tell them that you want a full refund.

Sorry this happened to you, bud. I've been victim of LFS employees that only want to send you home with something... whatever, as long as you buy anything. And they will sell you things without knowledge. Yeah, sure... you could have researched, but they're supposed to be specialists. Go with proof, print a couple of prestigious web pages where it says that they will eat the specimens that you have.

If I remember correctly, it is a type of coris wrasse... They will forage for food more aggressively than other wrasses but it's hit or miss whether they will be eating your fan worms. I have never seen one pick at a clam unless the clam was dying.
And lastly, there are two types of wrasses: those that have jumped and those that have not yet jumped haha... All wrasses are jumpers so just keep that in mind :)

Generally speaking these little yellow wrasses are good pickers and are usually one of the better behaved wrasses in reefs

Ah..... good to know, Dingo. Will those yellow wrasses also eat the flatworms he's mentioning?

I've never had a yellow one, but I did have a red coris wrasse. Never touched my fan worms in the 5 years they were together before I sold the tank. Healthy eater, though-- it loved chopped clam and squid. :)

YES it has eaten the flat worms - saw it with my own two eyes ;D

I hope it does not deiced to jump today till I get a grate on it tonight.

Yea no way I would be able to get this guy out he is only 2 inches long and I have 60+lbs of rock.

I have this same wrasse had him in a 45 cube for about a year as he got bigger moved him to my 120 both with open top and clams he never bothered my clams although he did eat a crab or 2 other than that he is a very beautiful, healthy eater, and very active fish love that guy. Have had him now for about a year and a half 1 of the most peaceful fish in my tank, and he LOVES Rod's, and he dives into the sandbed everyday like 1 minute before lights out, almost as if he knows what time it is

I have one and he is a great little fish. I had zoanthid eating snails and he wiped them out in a matter of days. I have no clams or feather dusters, so I can offer no advice there. I suspect he ate many of my dwarf cerith snails because their numbers have been quickly declining since I put him in the tank. He is pretty much in his own little world foraging for food all day. He never bothers the other fish but any fish who nips him can expect a nip back. He is a great eater too. He usually grabs the biggest piece of food he can find and beats it in a rock until it is small enough for him to eat, or until my chalk bass steals it from him.

Is the one you mean right?

While I have never had that particular one the Halichoeres are as a general concensus is the considered reef safe with the exception of picking at tube worms & any snails that fall flipped over are potential targets.

I have had a couple Halichoeres and yes they are fairly known for being jumpers.
