Last month I saw a mustard color Rhinopias in a local store and about 3 weeks later the same fish looked like it was getting more brown in color. I was thinking about getting him but I don't want to spend the money on a fish that might remain yellow brown. Is it possible for it to brighten up to yellow in my reef tank if I feed it what it wants to eat. I think in the store they feed it frozen and they say it eats about anything they give it.

I still have my clownfish because I have not purchased a Rhinopias as of yet. I dont want one that might remain brownish yellow

there is many variations on what will cause the coloration....
food that it eats, food that have been supplemented with higher levels of HUFA, beta carotene and vitamins will tend to help brighten the colors up
Will see mimicary to some degree in this fish also from what I read....sand coloration, rocks, sponges and other decorations in tanks might cause the fish to change color
Fish do tend to loose color sometimes in captivity and I know these are expensive fish so if you are not happy with the color now...dont get it cause it may or may not change
