Yellow Tahng not eating HELP!

I have a atlantic blue tang, Sailfin Tang, And a Yellow Tang. The Yello Tang is about the size of a large flame angle, but he wont eat. His stomach is starting to cave and from not eating. The Atlantic Blue And the Sailfin Tangs are eating great what should I do. Thanks!

 

I feed my frozen brine shrimp, or flakes, or seed selects, he eats just about anything I will put into the tank. What do you feed now and how long have you had it?

 

Is the yellow tang new? He could be sick with a parasite or bacterial infection. What size tank do you have and what are your water parameters?
You might want to consider placing it in a QT tank and possibly treating with an antibiotic or just observe it.

 

Antibiotics are real sketchy on Tangs. Alot of anti-biotics will kill off the bacterial in the tang stomach that the Tang uses for digestion. You could cure the tang only to later kill it from starvation.

It the smallest of three tangs in the tank is it getting picked on?
How big is your tank?

 

He might not be sick at all. You probably got yourself a real finicky tang. It's common, but first time hearing about in a Yellow tang as they are hungry, hungry fish. Happened to me before with a Chevron tang. Trust me, if he is real finicky, he will die before he eats something he does not like or is not interested in. Try lacing garlic extreme on foods you prepare for him and also dose it in the water, it will make him extremely hungry. Also, you can try Formula Two green marine algae pellets by ocean nutrition. It contains garlic, so he will accept it.

Time is of the essence. At this point, I would start adding garlic with garlic extreme to get his appetite up or he will die, mark my word. :-[

 

There could be some intimidation from the other tangs. I'd put the Yellow Tang in a QT tank using water, filter media, substrate from the main tank to reduce stress as much as possible. Give it some hiding places to make it feel comfortable. Offer a variety of foods letting the food sit in the tank for a couple hours if it doesn't eat it immediately. This gives it the opportunity to forage which is a more natural behavior. Of course remove uneaten food after the couple hours.
