I have a 90 gallon reef with 6 fish, a yellow tang, a coral beauty, a royal gramma, a bicolor blenny, and 2 yellow skunk clownfish. If I, to finish my fish population, added a yellow tail damsel, would it fight with the skunk clowns, as they are both damsels?

I would say only until they find their place in the food chain. I'm glad to see you're adding the damsel last... not first :p anyways, they should be fine. You can keep more than one damsel in a tank as well just so you know.

good idea with adding him last, that is probably the best way to do it, you still might have some issues though they are tough little buggers

I have a pair of ocellaris clowns and a yellow tail in my 40. They are all fine together, if anything the clowns pick on the YT.
You will be fine adding it.

+2 on both. My yellow tail is the bottom of the chain. They are the wimpiest of damsels IMO. They are also the coolest. Very even tempered. I am going to keep mine. If I can get my other two damsels out of the tank, I may just add another to see if I can do the mated pair thing.

I've read they do best in groups. Is this true?

No ! Just add one. I would tell anyone who would listen that a single Yellow tail blue damsel is the single best fish to cycle with and they are and are as already mentioned a wimp. But you add more then one and for some reason most always add several to cycle with there will be a pair in there somewhere and then they become King Kong.. No damsels should ever be kept in any community tank in pairs.. This also applies to clowns get a pair of mated Maroons or Tomato Clowns and they will rule 1/2 of a long tank and about all of a 90 . You would not want to put your hand in a system with a pair of many mated clowns or Damsels . You will read alot of stuff by many who just repeat what they have read. I see it all the time..
