That's a Hippo Tang it sounds like. If so those things get scared just by seeing their own shadow. It will hide for a bit before coming out and being a part of the community.

What else is in your tank? How big is the aquarium? How big is the Tang?

How big is it? Young hippo's can be real skittish and shy. I would be worried about the loss of appetite though. IME hippo's will eat about anything you put in the tank, whether it be meaty or veggie food. Their diet should consist of mostly algae/veggies though.

yeah my hippo is a real pig to eats anything. and it took it about a week before he didn't hide the everytime you approach the tank but I would be worried if he is not coming out at all.

I have 2 clownfish "NEMOS" and a yellow tail damsel, a goby and a blenney. Thats it the tank is 72 bowfront. I feed my nemos and damsel the hikari pellets and they love it and if they want more they will eat everything, they will pick on the rocks and eat the algae on the sand. the goby and blenney will eat algae. i recently started to give them formula 2 flakes and they seem to enjoy them. They will eat anything but my hippo is whats got me worried because i used to have a yellow tang and he died because he wouldnt eat. So what do you recomend. i seen him 2 or 3 times picking on the rocks but not sure if hes getting anything. the tang is like 3 or 3.5"

Mine still hides if I get too close to the tank. She is by far the most skittish fish I have every owned. The are omnivores but need to be fed more heavily on the veggie side.

Sounds normal. The drug of choice for mine is seaweed. I put hikari sinkable algae wafers , brocoli , occasional brine shrimp plus flakes ...and of course a variety of meaty seafood.

Try switching to frozen. My take to that easier, and your other fish and the tank as a whole will thank you for it as well ;)
