So based on all the reading I've done, I've always ruled a purple tang out in my tank, because i already have a yellow.

I have probably seen about 20 photos lately of peoples tanks, with both ... and never tanks that are even all that big.

My reef is 100 Gallons ... and I have a Yellow Tang that I've had for about a year ... but I've always love Purple tangs ... could I get one?

How big are the tangs in the photos you have seen. When tangs and most other fish hit maturity is when they establish there territory and you may run into problems.

I would say No you can try and trick them by moving rocks around like chiclids and put him in @ night but for the price I would not try purple tangs are real aggressive! with the same body style they will fight and will more then likely fight to the death.

tangs are good to add at the same time or tangs with different body styles are sometimes OK to add after the fact. I am in the same problem but when I do my upgrade I will add 2 more tangs but will place all 7 in the tank at the same time. to cause less barrio battling.

Well, you can try it, but be forewarned that purple tangs are typically the most aggro of the zebrasoma tangs. Yellows can be ornery as well, but I think if you had to do it one way or the other, that putting a purple in after a yellow is a better option than the other way around.

Now, if your YT is a meany, then you may have issues. It's hard to say since fish have individual personalities, and they might be best buds, they may fight all the time, or only if they are in the other tangs "personal space".

This is what I was expecting to hear. I've had numerous opportunities to buy a purple tang ... I just always knew it was a bad idea.

I've just seen so many tanks lately with both, that I thought I'd see what the pros thought

I wouldn't try it. I have a purple and yellow together but they both went into my tank at the same time. they bicker sometimes but that's about it

I would have to say no as well, chances of them not fighting is slim to none and IMO I'm sure others would disagree, 100g is too small for more than one tang.
