I know the yellow tangs do not do well with fish of similAIR SHape. Would it go bad if I put a Copperband butterfly in with a yellow tang?

    It may, Coldshot

2 examples on this site recently

    IIRC
Yamaharider- introduced a Copperband into a tank with a yellow and the yellow bullied it
    very badly

Nor Cal Guy - recently introduced a Copperband into a tank with a Scopas and the 2 hang out together

now the second one did surprise me, as not only are the shapes similar, but the new fish having a stripey pattern IMO would have given the Scopas more incentive to resent its presence

difficult to predict, as individual fish can vary , even within same species

I would think there is a strong chance of territorial based aggression
but I cant predict if it will happen or the extent of it, if it does happen

maybe re arranging the rockwork on the day of the introduction may help reduce the territorial instincts of the resident Tang

One thing to consider is the size of the tank. Also, when talking about yamaha and norcal, their tank sizes and the length of time the previous fish was in the tank. That may have a big impact on whether they can get along.

    fair points Blackraven
if the Tang was well established the risk would be greater IMO
If the Tang had only been introduced recently and had not territorialised the tank as yet, then maybe it would be less risky
