I know this has probably been addresses a million times but I bought a yellow tang 3 days ago and he's in my quarantine tank for awhile before I put him in my display and I'm having a really had time getting him to eat. He's grazed on some algae and tore up some cyclopeze but won't eat anything really substantial. Is this normal? I've tried frozen mysis soaked in garlic extreme and he's nibble at it but then spit it out. I try to cut it as small as possible but could it be that it's just too big? He's only about 2 1/2 inches right now. I have thought about getting an algae clip and putting some seaweed/nori on it but can be survive on just that? Sorry for all the questions together there ha

Algae clip is the way to go IMO. that way it can graze all day. Get ready for the tang police to ask questions about your tank size, etc. Hopefully you have a decent size tank and you did a good thing to use a QT tank as they frequently develop Ich. Good luck!!

I would give him some time to get comfortable and try feeding him each day. Put some sea weed in there. I don't think you have anything. To worry about. How does he look skinny fat? I'm not a expert but in my experience sometimes it takes a wile to get the to come around

Hahaha, ok thanks for the heads up. I got all the answers for the tang police :p. I'm actually going to get an algae clip today and see what happens. Yea I had a REALLY bad experience with not quarantining a new fish before putting it in the display. As far as his size, he's not fat but he's not super skinny either. He is a little on the thinner size but we'll see what happens. He's been eating seaweed in the tank and really going for the cyclopeze.

Definitely go with the nori on the clip. If he won't go for it, try attaching it to a rock to more closely mimick his natural grazing. You might have to try something else to supplement the algae. My desjardini won't touch mysis but will eat brine (gut loaded), new spectrum pellets, flakes, etc.

They frequently develop Ich because people sometimes don't listen to the "Tang Police".:(
    Agree with Say.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Try wrapping a piece of nori around a medium size piece of rock or rubble, secure it so it does not float away. Initially this may be a more natural way for the tang to eat.

Ok, I have some red and green algae sheets so we'll see how those work. Right now she's eating the cyclopeze and all so hopefully this will work. About how long should I leave her in the QT before moving her to the display?

if you make your own fish food and you have other herbivore creatures throw a good chunk of nori in the blender with whatever else. when i feed mine the tang picks the seaweed out of the fish. he is fat and healthy, plus he gets some of that miraculous garlic.
