Do you have any algae growing on your powerheads? If so turn them off for like 10 min and let the tang eat the algae off them. Also don't try ripping the algae sheets upbto look like flake food in hopes he might eat it cause he won't I tried with mine lol.

Do not know if anyone has suggested this yet, but you can rubber band or tie the sheets of nori to some pieces of rock. It's a more natural way for the tang to eat initially until it feels comfortable eating from a clip.

Would soaking the nori in garlic help as well?

Not sure if that is directed at me Marshall. :)

I have never soaked nori in garlic. Garlic is supposed to stimulate appetite so I can not see the harm as long you are not adding copious amounts of garlic to the tank, I would dilute a very small amount of garlic in SW and soak it that way if I was going to do it.

The tang appears to be suffering nutritionally.

    LOL

I have only kept a few tangs in my life and they all did fine. Never had much of an ich issue with them but I know that Marine ich resides in the gills of fish collected from the wild.

From diving I noticed that tangs constantly swim over the reefs and rock work always picking at algae, it just seems to me that absence of marine algae in their diets may very well lead to nutritional deficiencies and disease.

Usually Zebrasoma tangs are not to picky about what they eat. Few things I would do that may help.

    - Soaking the Seaweed/Nori in Garlic or a Seaweed Soak Usually you can get seaweed soaks that contain garlic, HUFAs and other vitamins to help boast the fishes immune system.

    - Try not if feeding brine for frozen, unless it is enhanced with spirulina. Mysis Shrimp is much more nutrition packed then Brine.

    - If the tang doesnt want to eat from the Clip, like suggested in a few ways you can rubber band down to a rock in the tank. Or another option... Since I have just as many Carnivores in my tank as Omnivores and Herbivores as well... I make a Home blend as well.

    - My home blend - Which I whip up in a Magic Bullet. But any processor or blender will do.

    - Frozen Mysis Shrimp
    - Frozen Spirulina Brine Shrimp
    - Raw Squid
    - Raw Shrimp
    - Raw Clams
    - Frozen Cyclopeeze
    - Sheets of Nori/Seaweed
    - Garlic Cloves
    - Selcon
    - Vitamin C Supplement.
A little bit for everyone! :)

I feed this about 2-3 Times a day (My red tailed tamarin needs to be feed often.) Along side.

I meant for big active fish for tangs. Probably should have been more clear about that. I've never thought flakes alone was enough for tangs, unless you are putting a lot in multiple times a day I guess. But I'm no tang expert since I have a 40 breeder...

Well the sheets i bought actually come pre soaked in garlic and i did rip them into pieces and he would go for them and spit them out. Ive been feeding frozen mysis and all that since it is what i feed my LPS corals and he usually tries to take it from there mouths but he only eats flakes and the frozen SOMETIMES but will eat flakes all the time. i will try the rock method hopefully it works but the only one that ate the sheet is the serpent star as soon as i hung it he came out litterally grbbed a piece off and went back under his rock with his piece in hand but the tang wont touch them or even bother with it.and i been feeding him the flakes about 2-3 times a day but i am kind of scared to keep doing this because then my parameters are going to get thrown off and then all the corals will die so any ideas? He is still swiiming around prefectly fine and juts chilling but i just want to fatten him up without costing me my hundred of dollars in corals to die..
