I come home this afternoon walk down to check my tank and find my yellow tang being eaten by hermit crabs. His fins and eye is gone.

Up until today he has been totally fine. Eating healthy good color no signs of disease. Nothing. My tanks is from what I can tell healthy. Corals are growing like mad other fish seem to be ok. (2 clowns and a BT trigger). I tested a day ago win no abnormal issues.

Could the hermits have grabbed him? Pretty bummed. Trying to avoid any other potential issues. The tang is still alive but I pulled him and he is in the ER but pretty sure he is a goner.

Anything i should do right away?

Typically your average hermits can not take down a healthy fish. If you have large hermit types keep an eye on them. I suspect the fish for some reason became ill and was easy pickings for the hermits, or they got very very lucky and are larger hermits.

I'm no pro and I'm sure the "Elders" here will give you better advice, but could the tang been sick or maybe the trigger got to him? I can't imagine the hermit crab catching the tang unless the tang was down which made it easier for the hermit crabs?

What I heard from members here that triggers aren't very nice and maybe tang and trigger got into it but trigger won by TKO?

I'm sorry to hear about the tang

My trigger ate my BSJF a while back. But I think only cause it tried to make the triggers home his. The tang and trigger have always been social. My trigger appears pretty docile plus I keep him well fed. I guess it's possiable but the tang didn't appear to be bitten. That trigger ate half my jaw fish in one bite. Was nuts.

Well that was an expensive snack. I have heard of BT going rouge, be careful with future fish.
