Hey guys. Added a Yellow Tang a few days ago. Very healthy looking. But he will not touch the rods seaweed blend or nori. He acts fine, has been grazing on the rock ever since i introduced him. Even cleaned all of the algae off of my snails and hermits. Maybe hes full from cleaning my rock? Should i be worried? I hope this doesnt sound stupid, but I would really feel better if he would accept some prepared food. Is there anything that i can give him that Tangs absolutely cant resist? Thanks in advance for any tips you guys can give me.

My tangs eat nori off a clip but these days I tear it up really really small, like 1/8" squares, and soak it in tankwater and selcon for 10 minutes. The selcon give a little flavor to the nori inducing a feeding response and it enriches the foodstuff with nutrients to ward of disease. Plus eating bite sized food is easier than tearing at a clip, he probably doesnt like being so exposed in a new tank.

Mine took a while to notice the nori but after a couple of days they started eating. Turn putting the nori under a small rock which he likes to graze on.

I found placing the clip on the rocks got my tank to pay attention to the nori. The tang may not like the motion of the clip or being next to the tank walls.

Thanks guys. LFS doesnt have selcon, but im going to order some today. They do have the Kent Garlic , so i think ill grab some of that for the time being and try it today. I tried sticking a small piece between two rocks last night, and he (or she) was grazing on the rock and picking all around it, almost like it was invisible. It didnt go after any of the meaty food either when i fed my other fish yesterday.

My tangs/foxface were all terrified of the veggie clip when I first introduced it and wouldn't even go to the side of the tank it was on at first, but after a couple of days of trying they finally realized it was a good thing and then started eating off it. As long as the tang is eating other prepared foods (mine love mysis) just give it some time, it'll figure it out eventually.

No luck today, Tang still will not eat. Throughout the day, i tried mysis, frozen sf bay emerald entree, nori, and rods seaweed blend.....all soaked in garlic. No action whatsoever. tried the nori and rods food on clips, and tied to rock. This is day number 3 in the tank... and all hes done is graze on the rock :(

So he IS eating, just not prepared food.
Let him graze the rock, when he cleans up all the algae and other things that are natural for him to eat, he'll probably start paying attention to the only thing that's available.

Day #7.... He FINALLY went after Nori enhanced with Garlic, and attached to piece of live rock. He still doesnt go after anything meaty when i feed my other fish. Tangs i have kept in the past would eat anything i threw in there. Oh well. Thanks for the advice guys.
