For example, maybe a clip of different color??? Is this what you mean by changing the clip itself?
    Thanks

Yeah, you mentioned the tang eats from the clip from the LFS. Perhaps try to get the same exact clip.

My tangs know exactly what's going on when they see my hand in the water at one end of the tank. But if I place the clip in a different spot, they have no idea it's there. Recognition could be key...

The key here is that the tang needs to recognize it as food. A clip on the side of the tank is not what it's been used to eating out of.

I have two tried and true methods to get fish to eat out of a clip:

    1) Introduce another fish that eats out of a clip. Fish are attracted to other fish feeding and will naturally go to the clip when the fish that's already learned about the clip starts eating.

    2) Rubberband a piece of seaweed to the rocks while at the same time having the clip with seaweed in the tank as close as possible to the other. The clip will likely remain untouched until you cease to refill the rubberbanded piece. The fish will then have the look of the seaweed in his mind as food and will look elsewhere for it.

Thanks to all. My fish is currently eating seaweed strips off of a rock (rubberbanded) located 3 inches from the clip. I think it is going to figure it out. it is currently scared of the clip. I will keep you posted.
