So, we got a new yellow tang in yesterday and he did great after acclimation. He swam around all day and was making friends. Since about 5:30 this morning he has been sitting in the upper rear left of the tank where the filter and powerhead are, doing nothing but staring up at the light. Is this little guy ok, or does he need something? Mom always told me not to stare at the sun! ;D

Need to give him a few days--even if he does not eat, he will be alright. If after about three days there is no improvement, then be concerned. When you first put him in he was just exploring. Still takes awhile to completely acclimate. Good Luck!!;D;D

Mr Tang now has identical white stripes on his sides about midway between his top and bottom, is he still good?

What have you tried feeding him. Some dried sea weed on a vegi clip near the area he is hanging out may peak his interest.

That white stripe is normal--especially in lower lighting--no worries

Yup, just new environment, give him some time. As long as he eats, he'll be just fine.

Good job you waited it out. As a fellow reefer once told me patience is a virtue

The white stripe is normal as has already been mentioned. However, IME the stripe becomes more pronounced when the fish is stressed and there fore more susceptible to illness. I happen to agree with the others on the board, not much to do but wait it out.

You should be testing the water, making sure your grounding probe is working (those ends corrode quickly and need to be on your maintenance schedule)

If you are overly cautious (as I believe you should be considering the investment we all make here) you may want to ensure you have some medication on hand just incase.
