    Hello,

Hope you all had a good new year.

I was away for new years so i left my tank for about a 2 days. My automatic timer completely stopped working and when i arrived home my lights had been on for over a 2 days (40 odd hours).

I have a algae bloom on my rocks and glass sides , however ive noticed white spots on my yellow tang. I cant see anything on my two clown fish.

There currently on its side fins and some on the side body. However last night he did have some on the top fin however gone this morning.

Could the fact that its been daylight for them the cause the outbreak of white spots? (ich maybe?)

    Water tests are fine.

    Many thanks

Could be ich. Better to transfer all your fish to a hospital tank if the problem does not resolve quickly. Peppermint shrimp can help out your tang if it is ich.

Im going to pick up a peppermint shrimp tonight from the LFS. I dont have another tank.

Problem is that i can get a 10-15 gallon tank which will be okay for the clowns but too small for the tang.

I will see how my tang is tonight when i arrive home.

    Thanks

I've been reading on the net and theres mixed opinions about cleaner shrimp and ich.

From what i've been reading for the past hour is people saying that they don't remove ich at all and some say they do. Confused :/

Scarlet Skunk Cleaner Shrimp seems to be the best option from what ive read , cany anyone back me on this?

    Thanks

I seriously doubt that a fish would allow a shrimp (if the shrimp can even do it in the first place) to dig into its skin to remove this protozoan parasite (ich). Keep in mind that the white spots that we see on fish is not the actual parasite but the fishes skin reaction to having something literaly under its skin. Also peppermint shrimp are not cleaners. Blood red shrimp and Skunk shrimp are.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Could be marine ich simply brought on by stress.

Remove the stress feed the fish and hope for the best.

I do not see QT'ing all the fish over one possible case of marine ich unless you plan on treating the display and observing strict QT from now on.

Cleaner shrimp do not remove or eat the parasite, numerous studies show no parasite in the gut of cleaner shrimp, while it may provide some relief to the fish it's by no means a treatment for marine ich.

If the fish is eating, HUFA, garlic and or selcon IMO.

okay picked up another tester kit and found everything fine but my PH is around 8.5 to 8.8!!

My clowns also have white spots now. I went to the LFS and he didnt recommend another cleaner shrimp, instead he sold me a Cleaner Wrasse (help in my tank ) and garlic to add to my food. I mixed brine shrimp and mysis shrimp together with the garlic and they ate it all up.

My question - How to lower my PH?

PH is too high , cause stress to my fishes

I'm going to take a sample of my water tomorrow for him to double check.
