A Cleaner wrasse will need to have it's diet supplemented, it will starve to death in such a small tank and with little natural food available, it will take a month or two but not a great choice for a new tank.

I have found that if you must or it's recommended to buy one new creature to treat an existing creature problem proceed with caution. Local fish stores may sell you the moon to treat marine ich if you are willing to buy it.

Please review the link below regarding treatment of high pH.

I suspect your tank is still cycling to a certain degree, not something you can test and that is contributing to issues with stress.

    Morning,

I'm thinking of a large water change 40%. Advise this or not. I'm going to look up about the food requirements.

I don't get when you have ich on your fish there is the chance of all your live stock getting killed. Right! But then people go out and add more live stock and stuff. It just puzzles me!

LFS can be a bunch of morons just like some peeps on here(sorry). Get your parameters straight. Peppermint shrimp are part of the cleaner crew and do help out with ich, although it is not a permanent solution to the problem. Relieving some stress will help, but you need to act fast and if it is ich and one fish has it, all the others will eventually get it. So it's better to treat all, even the ones that are not yet infected. Don't even put any medicine in your DT, always treat in a hospital/quarantine tank.

I guess i shouldn't really trust my LFS store anymore. Nice guy but not the best choice.

Im going to do a 50% water change tonight to lower my PH and remove bad guys in my tank. I shall update.

    Thanks

There is absolutely no point in removing and QT fish if you are not going to leave the display fallow (without fish) for 6 weeks and are going to adhere by the strictest quarantine procedures in the future. Maine ich will continue to complete it's life cycle if fish are present for up to 6 weeks. You will have to Qt any thing in the future even frags, anything that brings any bit of water into the system has the potential to carry marine ich.

Maine ich is an opportunistic parasite, it's almost always present but becomes symptomatic (you can visualize it) when there is stress in a tank. No stress and it will not rear it's ugly head as frequently.

To even begin think about treating it you need to know it's life cycle. And here Cheryl goes with the links again.

    Okay,

I don't want anything to die on my terms as i already lost two clown fish due to not knowing enough at that time. I can get a small 50 Litre tank for QT but from what i've been reading, moving fish to a new home would stress them more and cause bigger issues (death)

I'm happy to get another tank and run that for weeks but I'm afraid of losing my yellow tang ( cost me $190 in spain ).

Its been ever since my timer packed up and the lights had been on for a long period.

I'm going to see how my tang looks after another day of feeding garlic and then make a decision. Thanks again for the input

Coralline has posted some great info. She knows her stuff. Secondly why does peppermint shrimp keep coming up? They are best added for aptasia. I haven't heard of them being effective for ich

Came home tonight to find my yellow tang with only 1 or 2 white spots, my clowns are totally free from white spots. Garlic is helping loads and I've seen my wrasse cleaning my yellow tang constantly tonight. I shall update tomorrow on the progress.

This is a common misconception. Marine Ick develops beneithe the slime coat of an affected shrimp so can not be cleaned. Also peppermint shrimp have been know to feast upon LPS. I would either QT all your fish for 6-9 weeks with a medicated treatment (not really applicable depending on your situation) or feed well and maintain good parameters. If your fish is eating and otherwise healthy he should develop the proteins to defeat the parasites.
