The coral will be fine for a couple days with shorter light periods. I've done it a bunch of times when I add new fish.

Your tank is on the small side....so it may never work. But give it a few days. If it is getting really brutal, you can try to remove the purple tang. But constantly sticking a net in there trying to catch him is only going to stress both of them out more and may make your yellow even meaner. My fish get crazy pissy when I'm doing WCs or have my hands in the tank.

If you do needto catch one of them, leave the net in the tank for a few days, each day put food in it and walk away, by the foutth day u can put food in it and step back they should swim right up and into the net and BAM you gor ur self a tang! lol

Have you tried moving around some of the rock? Also, traps made out of soda bottles or acrylic work well.

Ok, so I was able to catch the yellow tang and I put him in the fuge for now.. Any suggestions to when I should try and put him back? Is re-working the rock work necessary?

it changes the territory and almost seems like he is in a new environment. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

I know your pain. to me, the yellows can be the worst as far as meanness. I had one that was AWFUL. give the purple a few days to heal his wounds and get to eating good. do some re-arranging if you can and then add the yellow back in with the lghts off.leave them off for a 24 hours period.

Now that you caught the yellow, you could return him to your LFS, and get another yellow if wanted, maybe it will have a differernt personality. Most likely though if you got a different yellow, now that the purple has been in the longer, it will just take your old yellows place. My purple runs the tank. Goodluck with yours.
