I am interested in getting a yellow toadstool leather (sarcophyton sp.)

Is this a difficult coral to keep? Any special needs or concerns?

    Thanks!

I just bought one, and from my understanding its a pretty easy coral to keep. if its anything like my other leather it should do awesome. I've heard that they arent to picky on flow or light either. I have mine setup on one of the sides of my tank in fairly medium to high light inmedium flow area Only had him for about a week but all polyps are out and happy.

Its one of my favorite corals.

they can be toxic to stony corals(nothing a lil carbon cant take care of), and i think the green polyped variety are a lil more touchy than other leathers and toadstools. but still fairly easy.

    Thanks totter0817 & BluePhish -

My LFS don't carry them. Do you know if they ship well?

Don't know. IMO I think its one of the hardier corals I have owned. I would talk to whoever you plan on getting it from, on how well they ship. My LFS carries them, and I only live about 10 mins away so I never have any problems with traveling with corals.

Have you talked to your LFS about getting one in for you. I know some LFS, will be willing to purchase something if they know its going to sell. Maybe if you make some kind of deposit you guys could work something out.

Hey! My yellow toadstool leather is very sensitive to temperature. It's actually a great probe of temp. stability of my tank!

Interesting. I never have any major fluctuations in temp, so never have noticed.
What does it do, does it close up if too cold or hot

On the contrary. They are picky about flow. If not provided with enough flow they will start having trouble shedding.

It closes up when it's too hot (in my case ~ 83F) Moreover, as mission said they need good flow in order to get rid of an excessive protection tissue. :cheesy:
