    Hey Everyone,

I just purchased a YWG this past weekend and was wondering about their typical behavior. I have read that they typically hide for the first week, but is there anyway to get them to be more friendly?

Also, when I put him into the tank, I expected him to float to the bottom and hang out there, but for the first day he actually swam near the top. Since that time I haven't seen him at all- and I have been looking!

Is this anything to be worried about? I do have a full glass top, so I doubt he jumped out.

    Thanks

Its a great thing you have a glass top, mine jumped off 15 min after being in the tank, luckily for him I normally spend a good hour sitting in front of the reef when I just introduced a new fish ;)
Mine was pretty timid at first, but its normal until they get used, now I see him moving from cave to cave awesome fish

Alright, I still haven't seen my Goby at all. Its been about two weeks and I have tried everything except ripping the LR apart- feeding with the lights out, feeding with mysis shrimp, coming down quietly at 2am and using barely enough light to just be able to see movement.

So far, nothing has worked and I am somewhat concerned he got stuck and possibly died:cry:

I was thinking about taking the LR out of my tank this weekend to try and find him and also scrub the hair algae off of it. Would this be a bad idea? I am fairly worried

That happened to me. Never found him, not even on floor. I picked up a pistol shrimp and threw him in there thinking maybe they would pair. I ended up getting another YWG a month later. Its been probably close to a year now..

Thanks...that makes me feel much better lol. I guess I will just have to tear down the rock and look for him. I don't want to lose him cause my sister bought it as my birthday present...

When I threw one in my old 125 reef it disappeared from day one and after a few months I just assumed he was dead. About a year later I upgraded the tank into a 240 fowlr and when I was moving all the rock there he was! Super fat and healthy looking too. He NEVER came out during feeding once. I had already sold my wimpy reef fish so I gave him to my mom and he made a cave right at the front of my moms tank. So now he's always out and mom LOVES it.

My YWG is pretty shy also. I do see him from time to time but, if I had it to do over I would send money else where. I really like obie our goby but, just don't see enough of him or pete our pistol shrimp.

Give it time. When I put mine in, it took 2 months for it to emerge, then very slowly it started to show itself more. Now 8 months later he rules the left side of my tank, and puffs his mouth at me all of the time. He's ALWAYS out. I love to watch him. They are entertaining. Good luck!

Then there's my pair of Yellow Watchman Gobies... I got them months ago and I'm lucky to see them once a week!

I've owned a few watchman goby's and all of them have started eating within a day of being introduced to the tank. I also see them every day... although my tank is only 50 gallons and my current goby is not shy at all. I think if you haven't seen it for two weeks, it is probably dead. I hope this is not the case though! Let us know how it goes.
