Ok educate me on this... there are different colors of MH. i'm realy new to the lighting for a reef tank. Had a fish only for a couple of years now and lighting wasnt the most important thing... what i have did the job very well. im guessing white cause i already have 2 actinic blues? i dont know... what do you all think???

    Marc.

I think there is definitely there is a thing as too much light. Like Nugio said 10w/gallon can work if you can keep the heat down. But on tanks 55 gallons or less this can be quite hard. And big heat swings between night and day can be hard on your tank. There is also the electrical cost which may be worth noting.

If you have a mix of soft and hard corals, some may react negatively to that much light.

yes there is 6500K which is yellowish and not that reccomended for a reef. then theres 10000K which is more white. Then theres like 13000,14000, and 15000K which are all inbetween 10K and 20K. there perfect i think, color wise. Then theres 20K which i have, theres different kinds of 20K some are more bluier than others. The radium and xm bulbs are very blue, like windex almost. then there the coralvue 20K bulb like i have. it's not as blue as the others but more like a 15K.

yeah i suggest having about 10 watt/gal only for hard corals and anemones.

Actually hottie, some people just don't like the look of the 6500k, that's why they don't recommend them. But, the Iwasaki 6500k has an extremely high par rating (in the 700s!) and corals grow crazy mad with them.

i know that i'm not trying to sound arrogant but i'm just trying to help a fellow reefer. I'm just saying that the 6500K are yellow and so there not as pretty as the bluier ones. The blue brings out the corals and fishes color. It makes some of them glow.
