Cmon man cant throw in the towel yet. You just begun the sps madness.

So what? you had a few problems with some frags. Thats why you bought frags not big colonies dude. DONT GIVE UP!!!!

What are you alk, ca, and mg levels. Havent seen you post these levels. your ph dips a lil low at night under 8.0 according to your controller readings.

Ive had some problematic frags in my tank. I bit my lip grabbed em outta my tank and tossed em in the garbage. Thinking cool cant wait to get more :D.

What kinda sps you startin off with? ACRO more challenging than monti's.
Do you have lps in your tank? how are they doing? growth wise? if they are doing really well that is a good indicator your ready to bump up to starter sps.

You have all the toys to maintain a healthy tank. Something is causin you some problems.

I was just going back over your thread. Do you think perhaps maybe you tank is just not mature enough yet? Now me being a newbie, I don't really know what that means, but most folks say don't even attempt SPS till after a year. My tank was up a year when I bought it and I have had a year now. Durring that time you have had you skimmer issues as well. So I don't really know, but maybe it is too soon?

My tank isnt even a year old and sps do well in my tank. Even after my mishap the sps that survived has returned to great health.

The indicator to be ready for sps is when you have coralline growing on your glass. Some people say as soon as it starts. Ive read a recommendation where the coralline on the glass in the size of a nickel.

Funny. I hardly have any. At first I wanted a tank full, but now I'm happy I don't have to scrape it all the time.

I really dont like the coralline look myself. I take a razor to my background. I like the black background. colors "pop" out more.

In about a year or so I wont be able to take a razor to my back wall.
I put mini blue clove polyps glued to back wall. Background hopefull will be nothing but mini blue cloves. :)

    My alk has dropped

6 instead of 9. Test kit wrong, and me not calculating usage correctly to boot. Nitrates also spiked, probably due to lack of water changes and not really skimming properly due to changing over to the I-Tech (2 break-ins, no water changes in the interim). Skimming great now, once I catch up on water changes I should be good to go. Changing water tomorrow.

Bringing params back into check (using reef builder to raise alk) and buying a new test kit. A local reefer (great guy, in the hobby for quite a while) helped me test my water so now I know what to fix.

That reminds me, I need to calibrate my ORP probe one of these days too...

Winding down the tank. Keeping most hardware, as I'll start up again another day.

I have all corals for sale in the local club. Too much work, too busy nowadays. Tank has become too much work. Going fish only temporarily, then eventually shutting down. Thanks for following all.

Eh, it's alright. It'll come back another day as a better setup. Need to focus on other stuff for now.
