I'm getting a square tank priced out, 48x40x21 or 48x48x21, 48x48x25, depending on which price turns out the best is the size I'll get. Really leaning towards 48x40x21. Hopefully will be able to get it ordered and set up in the next couple months.

Still working on getting all my corals moved - they will not be transitioning to the new tank. The new tank will be fish only for a while - then gradually transition to a reef as it matures. 75 will become my sump / fuge. Tank will have 4x250w halides for lighting. 2x250 temporarily, then move up to 4x250. The focus of the new tank will be stony corals, and this will be a much more organized build - will move slower, set up neater, and no more manual dosing - all will be controlled via dosing pumps. Will be using 2 or 3 MP40w's for flow instead of a closed loop. More to come later...

Will do. Lots of planning to go into this one. Not something I'm purchasing tomorrow ;) I'm going to be designing everything on the computer to make sure all will be just right. 48x40x21 is 167, 48x48x21 is 200 and 48x48x25 is 240. I'm going to try and automate as much as I can with the Apex. The MP40's will be fun to control with the new module that Neptune will be releasing for them in the 1st quarter of 2010. Nice thing is with using a 75 for the sump is I will still have enough room underneath the tank to hide equipment and supplies. Tank will be fully accessible for maintenance and viewing on all 3 sides, which will also be cool - will be just like looking at the front due to it being so wide :)

You are a nut!!!! What happened to no time?;D 48x48 is insane. God that is going to be beautiful. I still want that DSA 185. 60x30x24.

You are pretty much set on equipment and know what you need. Put some serious thought into your overflow. A Calfo coast to coast and a Herbie/Bean is the only way to go. I assume you will be able to drill all you want.

What can I say, I love reefing. I learned a lot from this 75 and I intend to go slow and put everything I learned into the build and even if it takes me a year to splash water into it, it will be done correctly and cleanly.

As for the coast to coast, you have read my mind. I am looking into what it will take to install a coast to coast with 3 drains and 3 returns, and install "dry docks" into the overflow, so I can install 3 mp40w's into the rear of the tank (overflow) so cords won't be seen for a full 3 way clean view - and have all 3 pulse to create the flow. Will be tricky but with some clever design I think it can be done.

Wow, this is going to be amazing!!! I am so excited for you, and extremely envious. You're going to use a 75 as a sump - and that was going to be my upgrade lol.

I can't wait to see this come together. And, therefore, I think you should purchase it tomorrow. ;)

Thanks :) I hope it will be. 75 is my initial thoughts on the sump. I have stand measurements to work out, skimmer size to consider, refugium size, plumbing, amount of water volume draining from the tank, etc. The sump will need to keep up properly and 75 may be too small. I believe the final tank size will be 48x48x25 (240 gallons). May end up with a 120 for a sump.

Initial thoughts on the rock are that it will absolutely not be the standard rock wall pile. With this much real estate to play with there will be plenty of open sand, and a few islands of rock and some arches and caves. Will be using part of the rock from the 75 and ordering some Pukani from BRS for the rest.

My wallet is already hurting just thinking about it. I think I heard it go "creeaaakk" as I went to lunch today LOL
