Zach's 75G Build

Got my ballasts in today. Freaking Marine Depot. I will never buy there again. One got here damaged (bad rattling inside ballast) because the morons in the warehouse department threw the two ballasts (in their factory boxes) in one large box with barely any packaging material and they rattled around pretty badly as they came to my house from Cali. I sent them a picture and they didn't seem to really care. Finally they decided they would give me a UPS label to return the defective ballast (they wanted me to pay return shipping) and I had to buy another ballast to get one here in less than 2-3 weeks. My first and last order from them.

Also got my package from SpectraPure. Excellent.

I have read bad reviews of Marine Depot. But they are a sponsor on here, so I thought maybe those reviews were biased. I'll remember this.

 

They finally did decide to do $15 2-day shipping to get my new one here quicker.

They'll credit back the first defective ballast when the bad one gets back to them. Too bad they are tying up $100 for a week+ (not really my issue) - but - I had to get all PO'ed at them to make them give me a label (as a courtesy, the girl said - to me, it's just fair - if you do a bad job in the warehouse packing it and then let it rattle around in a box for an entire week at UPS and get broken due to negligent packing, it's only fair, not a courtesy). Otherwise, had I not bought a new ballast first, it would be 5-7 days to get the bad one back, 2-3 day processing, then another 5-7 days for a replacement. Unacceptable IMO.

 

On the plus side, the new ballast is night and day compared to the old ones. One side of the tank seems dark now. Plus the new Vertex ballast is much cooler.

 

My 75 is coming down this weekend. I will be starting a new build thread soon. Well, a welcome to my new tank thread, or something, as the build will happen in a day and I've been accumulating all the equipment already. Thanks for following this everyone. It's been quite an experience and I've learned a lot. Now to set up a real tank. ;D
