    RE: "geekdafied" signature block...

    Hiya geek,

"Zoanthid, Notice that this word contains only a single "o." A zoo is a place where animals are kept on display, whereas zo-(rhymes with toe) is a prefix meaning "animal." This is a simple point, but I can't overstate how it grates on the ears of folks who know better. My advice in any endeavor would be to know the correct pronunciations of its words; otherwise we seem less-informed than we truly are."

So am assuming you would accept "Zoa" as a reasonable abbreviation for "Zoanthid?" --- :-/

    LMAO

Zoa would be the correct abbreviation for zoanthid. Thats one of my pet peeves, hahaha. I editted the paragraph on that so it would fit into the signature, but here is the original paragraph...

    "Zoanthids (order Zoanthidea)
Notice that this word contains only a single "o." A zoo is a place where animals are kept on display, whereas zo-(rhymes with toe) is a prefix meaning "animal." Actually, the prefix zo- and the word zoo have completely different etymologies; that they appear to be similar is just coincidence. This is a simple point, but I can't overstate how it grates on the ears of folks who know better. My advice in any endeavor would be to know the correct pronunciations of its words; otherwise we seem less-informed than we truly are."

I was corrected once on the pronouciation of "SEIO", I say what sounds like " C O " and I was corrected and was told its "say o", well it dawned on me the other night that I was correct, sei sounds like see, not say like in the word seize. The company that makes SEIO also makes Rio pumps, so it makes sense that it sounds like "C O" and not "say o". I contact Kevin, a buddy of mine that works for TAAM Inc, who makes seio and rio, and I was correct, so now I wish I could get a hold of that bugger that corrected me when I was right to begin!!! Friggin college kids thinking they are smarter then everybody else!!!

completely understand, I'm trying to learn the names of the stuff in my tank. I hate going to my buddies shop and saying,"It's that neon orange thing with the ridges" I drive myself nuts not knowing the names.

The only thing that burns me more is bad spelling :D I'm a secretary by trade though so it's understandable (and completely forgivable).
